Carnaval

When we were in Chetumal we saw a big festival, and when we were at Lago Bacular we some people that were getting ready for a parade. All of a sudden we found out it was time for Carnaval.

It was very loud and there were a lot of people at Carnaval. There was a stage with people on it that were dancing. The stage was very big and had a bunch of lights on it. People were dancing with costumes on. The costumes were very colorful and feathery with puff balls on their heads.

There were some food stands and a couple of small rides. People were selling marquesitas, cake, tacos and french fries. Also, people were selling balloons, bubble wands, toy guns, sunglasses, and hats. One guy was selling wigs and I wanted to buy one to wear on the first day I was back at school so no one would recognize me.

Carnaval is celebrated in other parts of Mexico too, especially in the port cites. It is celebrated because once Lent starts Catholics can't live it up again until Easter.

  1. How fun to be there during Carnaval! Here in St. Louis, they celebrated Mardi Gras, which is similar to Carnaval, with their traditional parade. It's a smaller parade and celebration than the New Orleans one, but it is well attended here. Fortunately, the weather was very nice this year for Mardi Gras attendees.
